How do I resolve a credit freeze?
What is a credit freeze:
Consumers who are interested in protecting their credit history can opt to have their credit frozen. This means that a credit inquiry cannot be run unless the consumer temporarily lifts this frozen status.
A credit freeze also allows an individual to control how a U.S. consumer reporting agency is able to sell his/her data.
What to do if a customer has frozen credit:
- Prior to running credit, ask the customer if they have frozen credit.
- If the answer is “YES”, the homeowner can request a temporary freeze removal from Experian in one of the following ways:
- On the Experian website using the applicant's PIN (https://www.experian.com/ncaconline/removefreeze); or
- Over the phone with an Experian customer service representative or using the automated system at 888-397-3742
After the freeze is lifted, your customer can apply for credit through the normal Sunlight credit application process.
