Does Sunlight offer Spanish Loan Documents and a Spanish support for borrowers?

The Spanish selling capability is not turned on for all partners by default. If your company would like to turn on the Spanish capability in their portal please connect with your account manager to assist you with this process.

For partners who have turned on the Spanish capability Sunlight Financial allows customers to complete their solar or home improvement sales experience in Spanish. This means that customers can choose to sign a Spanish language loan agreement package.  Additionally, the email version of the pre-qualification and credit applications as well as legal disclosures and certain email notifications will be available to customers in Spanish. See the video below to learn more.

How to Sell Customers in Spanish

To sell to your customer in Spanish, all you have to do is log on to Orange, create a tile for a new customer and select Spanish as the “Project Language” for your sale. This can be done in either the customer’s pre-qualification or credit application. If you select Spanish, your customer will receive a Spanish loan document and other aspects of their credit application experience will appear in Spanish as well.

There are a few important things to note about this process

  • If you know your customer speaks Spanish and would prefer to complete the transaction in Spanish, please choose Spanish at the beginning of the pre-qualification or credit application process to avoid running a change order later in the process.
  • If you are taking an application with two co-borrowers and you choose the “Spanish” option, confirm that both borrowers can read and understand Spanish loan documents. If either applicant does not speak or read Spanish, please do not select Spanish as the project language.

How do I generate a fully Spanish credit application?

If your customer prefers to complete their credit application in Spanish, just choose Spanish when entering their customer information and then send them the email version of the pre-qualification and/or credit application. When they open that site through their email all of the application field names will appear in Spanish. At that point, they can choose to switch back to English if they prefer.

Can I change the project language after creating the customers account in Orange?

The best practice for this new Sunlight feature is to identify a Spanish speaking customer and mark it appropriately in Orange as early as you can in your experience. But, if you are working with a customer and realize they need Spanish loan documents later in the process, we have accommodated for that as well. Here’s how it works -

First find your customer in Orange and click on their tile. You’ll notice there is a new field that says “Project Language” under the details section. If you need to update the language preference of the customer in this section you can click “Edit”, which will give you the ability to change the project language from English to Spanish.

Depending on where your customer is in their journey, there is a small chance the customer will need to either re-run credit or re-sign loan documents. Let’s walk through the different scenarios together.

Scenario

Process

If the customer has not received their loan documents yet

…and you switch the language, you’ll have the option to send them loan documents in their chosen language.

*If the customer has received their loan documents in their email

…and you switch the language, Sunlight will void out the existing loan documents and you’ll have the option to send them loan documents in their chosen language.

*If the customer already signed their loan documents

…and you switch the language, Sunlight will void out the existing loan documents and you’ll have the option to send them loan documents in their chosen language for the borrower to re-sign.

*In any scenario where the customer was credit approved before you make this adjustment, there may be a chance that the customer will be asked to re-run credit, based on the lender and the product selected. We will match the borrower to the same product, but the customer may be required to get approved with a new lender. This is a very infrequent occurrence, but all the more reason to mark your customer with the appropriate language as early in the process as possible.
